Today Othermill launches for the general public!
Some might remember about 18 months ago we were hit by the tragic surprise twist ending of DARPA MENTOR project (CNC machines for 21st century shop class) and the team of Otherlab folks running a Kickstarter campaign to build a desktop-sized milling machine. As the story goes, they put together the campaign in record time - complete with a video made by their intern - and ran it with extreme success.
Since then, they have grown into Other Machine Co.(OMC), a beautiful team building beautiful machines. Last month they shipped their final Kickstarter backer reward Othermill, and today they are officially announcing the post-Kickstarter production Othermill for the general public.
Our little lab is built on the foundation of brilliant people tackling the problems they feel are most challenging and important. Other Machine Co. has not only tackled the problem of accessibility to CNC machines, but they did so against all odds. We could not be more proud of the work they have done and their ability to never give up. If you want to hear more about their story, OMC’s CTO Mike Estee has written a wonderful account of it: Confessions of a Hardware Startup.
